Every day, children in North Korea live in fear under one of the world’s most oppressive regimes. They grow up in a world where freedom, basic rights, and hope for a better future are luxuries they can only dream of. The harsh conditions they face in their own homes are unimaginable—forced to live in secrecy, constantly controlled by the regime, and often separated from their families. For these children, escaping to a life of freedom is a rare, dangerous, and difficult journey.

Liberty in North Korea (LiNK) is an organization dedicated to helping these children and their families escape the nightmare they live in. Through LiNK’s secret 3,000-mile underground rescue network, North Korean refugees—especially the most vulnerable, like children—are given a lifeline. This dangerous, underground network safely leads them across Southeast Asia, helping them escape North Korea’s oppressive grip. Along the way, they face extreme risks, from the constant threat of being caught and deported back to North Korea to the emotional and physical toll of the journey. But it is a journey that offers them a chance for a future free from fear and suffering.

Once these children and their families make it to safety, LiNK doesn’t stop there. They provide long-term support to help these refugees rebuild their lives in a new country. This includes emotional care, language training, job placement, and assistance in adapting to a new culture. This support is vital because many of these children have endured unimaginable trauma and are forced to start over in a completely foreign environment. The road to healing and a new life is challenging, but LiNK’s mission is to give these children a fighting chance.
